Seeds of Success!

Not only did Class 4 have a fantastic time running their Spring Plant enterprise... but their super talented teacher put together this amazing Animoto of the whole experience!

Spring Bulbs.jpg

She said I wasn't allowed to put it on because the music was 'nowt to dee with fluwers' (that's how Mrs Ferry talks. But I thought she'd done such a fab job it would be a shame not to share it. Just don't tell her it's on!

Leave a comment to say what you feel about her film.

Mr Firth

P.S. If like me you think she should have put each image AFTER the text about it - just say so. She ignored me but perhaps she'll listen to you!

Enterprise Week 2010 in Key Stage 1.

S7300114.JPG Fantastic fun has been had by all in Key Stage 1 during Enterprise Week. We have had lots of interesting visitors to tell us about their job. Each class made products to sell at our market on Thursday. We interviewed staff at Windy Nook School to find out about their jobs and we thought about which jobs we would like to do when we grow up.

KS1 visit to Heworth Grange, City Learning Centre

SUNP0007.JPG SUNP0009.JPGClasses 3, 4 and 5 have had some exciting learning in the past week!

We visited the CLC at Heworth School and had a chance to use their very high tech. computers. "It was like the flight deck of the starship Enterprise," to quote Mrs Ferry.

We started our day by taking a 3D journey on the video simulator used to train the Metro drivers. SUNP0001.JPG Then we used a great software program to draw a train. We made a brilliant new story about Cinderella including creating our own backgrounds, inserting characters and writing speech for them. You can tell from our faces in these photographs that it was an excellent experience.  A big thanks to the staff at Heworth who helped make learning in ICT such fun.

Horrible History at Windy Nook?

On Wednesday 13th February, the children in Classes 3,4 and 5 broke all of the rules about school uniform! They were participating in a special day, and came dressed in their Victorian finery! A special day, devoted to History and designed to help the children understand what is was like to be a child in Victorian days was a huge success.

MVC-009S.JPG

As well as washing socks in the poss tub, the children made broth and bread and revisited some favourite Geordie folk songs from the past.

Visit to St Alban's Church

Key Stage One thoroughly enjoyed their church visit this month. They walked up to St Alban's Church to participate in a christening service led by Mark Wroe. They were able to take part in a service, dressing up as the vicar and baptised a doll! This experience enriched the learning they have done this half term in RE.SANY0164.JPG

When the Fire Engine came to Visit Us.

The Fire Brigade came to visit our school in September because we have been finding out about The Great Fire of London. We were shown the metal cutter, lots of equipment, their medical kit, a special camera that helps you to see in the dark and the water hose. the most exciitng bit was when the water hose was turned on - it was great!
