Rare find at Windy Nook!
Little did we know when we were fishing for 'taddies' at Gardening Club... we'd hit on something RARE!
For a few weeks now we've been catching the odd taddie which stood out from the rest.
Why? Believe it or not they are TOTALLY SEE THROUGH!
This image was captured by Ava and her Mam whilst releasing some Windy Nook taddies into their pond at home.
Little did we know it was a rare thing to see. In fact it was only when Windy Nook's favourite Eco Warrior (Miss Karpinski) Googled these strange creatures we began to find out more...

Snow Update
The information from BBC weather page suggests less snow tomorrow than previously expected. Currently we expect to operate as we did today (Wed) with sufficient staff to maintain appropriate pupil teacher ratios - however as we said earlier if you feel your child would be better at home with you we support you in doing so.
I shall be speaking to Mr Cronnie first thing and all staff will have let me know if they are in or coming in by 8.15am, at which time the school website will be updated.
P.S. Whilst you're here please do scroll down the page to see the Mathletics link and Mrs Wong's 'Snowcat Challenge!'.
Thanks,
Mr Firth
Happy New Year
We hope you've all had a great break and are chomping at the bit to get back and do some 'Lovely Learning!'
All the best for 2010.
Awful jokes welcome too!
A friend of mine who teaches somewhere south of us has been off work with 'Man Flu' for a couple of days and sent this awful joke to us as a thank you for having such a great website, which has kept him entertained whilst he whimpered pathetically on the sofa!
Feel free to send in any jokes you think are better!
..........................................................
A bloke starts his new job at the zoo and is given three tasks. First
is to clear the exotic fish pool of weeds.
As he does this a huge fish jumps out and bites
him. To show who is boss, he beats it to death with a
spade.
Realizing his employer won't be best pleased he
disposes of the fish by feeding it to the lions, as lions will eat
anything.
Moving on to the second job of clearing out the Chimp
house, he is attacked by the chimps who pelt him with
coconuts.
He swipes at two chimps with a spade killing them
both. What can he do? Feed them to the lions, he says to
himself, because lions eat anything..
He hurls the corpses into the lion enclosure.
He moves on to the last job which is
to collect honey from the South
American Bees. As soon as he starts he is
attacked by the bees. He grabs
the spade and smashes the bees
to a pulp. By now he knows what to do
and throws them into the lions cage
because lions eat anything.
Later that day a new lion arrives at
the zoo. He wanders up to another
lion and says "What's the food like here?"
The lions say: "Absolutely brilliant, today we had Fish and Chimps with
Mushy Bees!"
Sorry - I did say it was awful!
Let's see if you can do better...

Flying High Launch

We've added this document (used with parents and friends at this mornings 'Times Tables Tricks' meeting) Feel free to print it off and colour to show how many answers you can give with 10sec thinking time. Perhaps you could print another and colour the answers you can give within just 5sec! If you don't have a printer, don't panic, just ask Mr Firth for a paper copy.

Taking Shape!
Didn't look great did it?

But thanks to a £4000 grant from the Council, we are nearly ready to start planting up our rejuvenated pond.

As you can see we are having a fantastic dipping platform built and when the boards are down we'll be able to get cracking with the pond plants, the bog garden and the wild flowering banks.
We can't wait!

Happy New Year
After a busy festive season, most of our pupils have returned safely and managed to miss out on the chickenpox, winter sickness bug and flu that seem to have gone the rounds!
In our assembly today, we have discussed our various New Year resolutions, and some of our KS2 pupils are happy to share their resolutions with you.
Some to look forward to at home include....
"To keep my room tidy all year."
To help my mam tidy up."

That's Christmas at Windy Nook!
What a busy end of term!
In amongst the usual excitement (and glitter), we've had our fair share of fabulous events to kick off the festive season.
Firstly, we had four parents "graduate" from Mrs. Hopkins "Parents as Partners" course, and they were brave enough to be awarded their certificates of achievement in front of a special assembly for Classes 1 & 2.
Congratulations go to Nicola McKie, Debra Scantlebury-Watson, Maxine Bolam and Malathy Pradeep for their participation, and for completing the homework on time!
Next came our annual pantomime, "Aladdin" playing to two packed houses! Our Year Six pupils did us proud with lots of memorable performances, and much fun and laughter putting it together. The school choir also sounded wonderful. I know that as children leave our school, they have lovely memories of their pantomime experience and
often remember this event with great fondness.
