World Maths Day

On Wednesday 6th March we celebrated World Maths Day in school. Key Stage One and Two children were able to log on to the World Games website and had lots of fun competing against children from around the World. We had tangrams, cookery and puzzles throughout the day.

A fun time was definitely had by all. You could say…mathstastic!

Beeches, Oaks and Elms

Good morning Beeches, Oaks and Elms

We hope you are all well and managing to stay warm in this very cold, extreme weather!

We know you will be bored and missing life in year Five and Six sooooo much – fear no more as we’ve set you some tasks to do.

Literacy

Read or watch the news (you could access newsround). Make notes.
Your task is then to produce a newspaper report about the weather we are experiencing. You might like to interview someone at home and use inverted commas (speech marks) to include their views.

You will be attaching this into your literacy book once we return to school, so remember to think about your presentation. You can either present this handwritten or word processed – the choice is yours! Why not check the PowerPoint attached it’s about journalistic writing, just in case you can’t remember the features you need to include.

newspapers

Happy reporting!

Numeracy

You’ll like this…in preparation for objectives we will cover in the future, we would like you to:

• Calculate the area AND perimeter of your yard/garden/pathway/drive etc. Think how you can calculate this, you might like to use metres, hand spans, foot spans, length of spade etc – the decision is yours; remember to include the units!

• We are sure you have had plenty of fun playing in the snow. We would like you to use this experience to write 5 word problems related to time and snow. An example could be…

I start playing in the snow at 10:05am, I return to the house for lunch at 12:30pm and stay indoors for 30 minutes. After lunch I go back outside and play for a further 3 hours. How long do I spend in the snow?

Science

And finally…

Keep a food diary of everything you eat today try to categorise the food into different food groups e.g.

Food                            Food Group
Brown bread        Carbohydrate
Butter                   Fats
Tuna                    Protein
Salad                   Fruit and vegetable.

Enjoy!

We look forward to catching up with you all when school re-opens.

Take care, stay safe and warm

Trinidad and Tobago in Beeches

Phew!

Last week was great in school, where the theme was Around the World.

In Beeches we studied Trinidad and Tobago. We completed a range of activities and had so much fun, including a parents session; mask making; a carnival and fruit tasting. We even made some images from the fruit! Why not have a look at some of the pictures and let us know what you think.

The next step…maybe a trip to Trinidad?! Now that would be nice!

Our World

As part of our themed week; next week Beeches will be studying Trinidad and Tobago. Watch this space to see all of the interesting facts we will learn and the amazing activities we will participate in…Watch this space as they say!

Swimming with Year Six!

Every Friday the Year 6 go swimming, they have been going since January 2011 and have already learned the three basic strokes. Some of the pupils have passed Level One, Level Two and Level Three, Hannah Daglish and Amy Innes have also passed their National Curriculum award, which means they have finished all of their awards. Level One is for beginner swimmers, Level Two is for confident swimmers and Level Three is for more confident swimmers.

Soon, in December, the Year Sixes will stop and in January the Year Fives will start. We are very happy that we all know how to swim now, as before some of us did not.

As you know, none of this couldn’t have happened without our instructors: Jillian, Sarah and Julie as they are great instructors and push us to our limits. Also, we couldn’t get there without the bus drivers and Mrs Boyle and Mr Hawdon of course!

Good luck Year Fives in January.

Windy Nook Celebrates

To help The Queen celebrate 60 years on the throne we had a red, white and blue day in school. We were all dressed to impress! We decided to mark the event by making a WN60. What do you think of our creative efforts? I’m sure the Queen would be ‘Jubilee-ous’ about it!

Football Presentation Night 2012

Yet again it was another successful season for our football players.

Our Year 5s came runners up in the Year 5 competition (with the help of some Year 4s).

Then our first team easily won the the indoor 5 a-side competition against some good opposition.

…and then more success in the Summer League. Winning Division 1.

Well done and thank you to everyone who has been involved with our football teams this season…roll on next season.
