Red Nose Day

It’s Red Nose Day on Friday! Here’s a copy of the note children were given.

Comic Relief Letter 2013

Remember to bring your £1 donation. Can’t wait to see what you are all going to wear!

Comic Relief started in the 1980s and it is the 25th anniversary of Red Nose Day this year. Look out for school staff wearing 1980s clothes on Friday!

World Maths Day

On Wednesday 6th March we celebrated World Maths Day in school. Key Stage One and Two children were able to log on to the World Games website and had lots of fun competing against children from around the World. We had tangrams, cookery and puzzles throughout the day.

A fun time was definitely had by all. You could say…mathstastic!

World War Two

This term Oaks have been learning about World War Two. We have pulling together our own World War Two projects to show people about the war. In the Oaks, we have put together a display board and we have gathered together some our family treasures from during the war e.g.: photos, identity cards, medals and artefacts. We also created our own propaganda leaflets from the war and displayed that on the wall too. We had a visitor to help us understand how to use propaganda and how to create our own.

Night Poems

In the Oaks we have been doing poems about night time. Everybody had great time and loved doing them. They were fantastic and we used spectacular words like conjuror and some words like this, a cruel beast and an evil magician.

The hardest part was… the first draft.  We had to think up verses to make sense with what we put as the first line of the verse.

We loved doing the poems and we would like to do more!

Sock it to me!

This term we have been learning about World War Two. One of the hardest things was rationing, nearly everything was rationed. A message came out: ‘Make Do and Mend.’ People often made their own toys so Oaks tried it! We made our own toys out of… guess what… SOCKS! There were bees, dolls, rabbits, dogs, cats, aliens and caterpillars. We had great fun making them with our families!

Anti-bullying Week 2012

Anti-bullying week was packed full of fun things including: making photo frames, bookmarks, anti-bullying slogans, word faces and colouring in. We made posters for anti-bullying and posters to show how the listening buddies can help you. One poster won out of each class in Friday assembly. On Wednesday, in singing practice we sang ‘Don’t worry be happy’ but changed it to ‘Don’t bully be happy.’ We had Friendship Tokens instead of  Pupil of the Week slips too. On Friday, we could add something blue to our uniforms for ‘Beat Bullying Blue.’

It was a hard week but altogether it was lots of fun!

Children in Need Day 2012

On Friday 16th November the pupils at Windy Nook had a jam-packed day filled with lots of fun activities to do with ‘Children in Need.’ The Oaks and School Council made all of these fab activities happen. The activities included: making cakes, biscuits and crispy cakes, pencils, badges, and key rings. There were also a group of hard working face painters that spent the full day face painting. Altogether we raised over £600! The most that we have ever raised. So thank you for all of your donations. Also a big thank you to all of the staff for organising such a great day.

Oaks Make Public Information Films

We watched archive footage of World War Two public information films. They gave the British public important messages about how they should behave and stay safe. We made some of our own. Let us know what you think!
