Red Nose Day

It’s Red Nose Day on Friday! Here’s a copy of the note children were given.

Comic Relief Letter 2013

Remember to bring your £1 donation. Can’t wait to see what you are all going to wear!

Comic Relief started in the 1980s and it is the 25th anniversary of Red Nose Day this year. Look out for school staff wearing 1980s clothes on Friday!

Ladybirds At Home

Hope you are all having some fun in the snow. As you know our topic this half term is Growing and Changing and this week we are exploring Freezing and Thawing. Here are some questions to think about.

1.) Why is there lots of snow at the moment?
2.) Where does snow come from and what is it made of?
3.) Is the weather hot or cold?
4.) What will happen to the snow if the weather gets colder or warmer? What changes will
occur?
5.) How can we stay warm? What can we do to help us warm up?

Perhaps you could use your pink homework books to tell both your friends and I what fun you have had this snowy extended weekend?

You could do one or more of the following:

1. Draw a picture of a snowy activity you have carried out. (Sledging, building a snowman
or snowdog, having a snowball fight, walking in the snow etc.)
2. Label your picture with a few key words.
3. Write a couple of sentences about your snowy weekend.
4. Tell me what you have noticed about how the snow or ice has changed over the weekend.

There are also some weblinks on the attached sheet which feature useful ICT games for several areas of the curriculum including Mathematics, Literacy and Understanding the World.

Ladybirds Mathematics

In our lessons we often use a range of useful websites which contain Mathematics games and activities. Below is a list of websites that you and your child can access at home. Some websites also feature other useful games for other areas of the curriculum, such as Literacy or Understanding the World.

Foundation stage ideas for things to do at home.

If you’re in Nursery or Reception classes here are a few ideas of things to do today as school is closed. You’ll need a grown up to help you and a PC or laptop. Log onto http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/collection and watch some of their fantastic animal videos. Remember we’re finding out about Growth and Change this term. You could draw a picture and write your name and the title. We’ll be looking at your pictures and writing when we’re back in school.
CBeebies also has some phonics activities for eager beavers in Dragonflies and Ladybirds. Have a look at Sebastian Swan’s website too.

Maths Games

I know how much you all love using the laptops and ICT suite whilst in school and developing your learning through games. Well, to help continue your learning at home, why not have a look at some of these maths games I have come across – simply click on the link below!

You could even show off your skills to an adult at home!
I can’t wait to read your comments.

Happy maths games!

As promised on the back of the leaflets going out on Friday, here is some extra information about the programme starting in school next week. Don’t forget – you have the opportunity to ask your child’s class teacher about this at open evenings.

Foundation Stage Stories

If your child is currently in Nursery or Reception at Windy Nook you can help them to make great progress in reading.
Our staff will be using a set of books to read to the children in school. We hope they’ll start to know, join in with and begin to love these books. We also promised to let parents and carers have the list of books we’re using. If you click on the link below you’ll be able to download the list.
We hope it’ll be especially useful just now as Santa will soon be getting ready for Christmas, writing lists and so on.

Stories relating to books

Dr Bike in Key Stage One

This academic year we will be continuing our fantastic work with
Sustrans and the FEAT First project. Last year this involved pedal free biking,
Nordic walking, pedometer challenges and Walk, Wheel Wednesday. To kick start
our activities this year Emma Spence, our FEAT First officer, will be in school
on Wednesday 26th September to repair bikes belonging to Key Stage One
children. Watch out for the flier coming your way next week…

Windy Nook Celebrates

To help The Queen celebrate 60 years on the throne we had a red, white and blue day in school. We were all dressed to impress! We decided to mark the event by making a WN60. What do you think of our creative efforts? I’m sure the Queen would be ‘Jubilee-ous’ about it!

Green fingers

Last year’s Dragonflies and Ladybirds planted potatoes in the spring. This year’s reception children have had fun harvesting the spuds and giving them a good wash. Next week? Potato wedges!! Watch this space.
