Can you work out Luke's 'brain teaser'?
3 men walked into a restaurant and bought a meal each. It cost £10.00 each (£30.00 into total) The waiter takes the £30.00 and gives it to the cashier. The cashier tells the waiter to give £5.00 back. On the way back the sneaky waiter takes £2.00 for himself and then gives each man £1.00 each. They think that they have payed £9.00 for their meal. 3 x £9.00=£27.00 + £2.00 (that the waiter took) = £29.00.
Where did the other £1.00 go?

The men THOUGHT they had paid £27 for 3 meals but it only cost £25. The waiter took £2 for himself and gave the men £1 each back (£3 in total).
This equals £30.
Is this good enough or do I need to go back to school?

It is because when they got the £5 back they had payed (£25 divided by 3 ) = £8.33 each for their meals. Their extra pound made it £9.33 each, not £9 each!
(33p X 3 = £1.00)
There is the missing pound!

Right, Luke you can have your playtime back; Katie... YOU'RE IN!
I felt bad enough that Mrs Mills and I were limping slowly to defeat, with no clear answer in site. But being beaten to the answer by a pupil... ouch!
Thinking Sheet for you I think!
(Well done - you must have had a cracking maths teacher last year!)
