Skipping Festival

Well done to Year 3 / 4 who performed their skipping routines to a big crowd at Gateshead Leisure Centre and in the KS2 assembly. All children expressed their enjoyment of the event and clearly showed the audience how fit and healthy they are. We also had some impressive results in the Speed Skipping Challenge- the girls managing 125 skips in a minute and a 1st for the boys with a staggering 154 skips!!! Incredible.new 152.jpg

Horrible History at Windy Nook?

On Wednesday 13th February, the children in Classes 3,4 and 5 broke all of the rules about school uniform! They were participating in a special day, and came dressed in their Victorian finery! A special day, devoted to History and designed to help the children understand what is was like to be a child in Victorian days was a huge success.

As well as washing socks in the poss tub, the children made broth and bread and revisited some favourite Geordie folk songs from the past.

Of course, when it came to smiling for the camera, the rules back then were quite different....
And was it fun to go to school in Victorian times?
What do you think?

Study Buddies in Action

As part of our drive to support more independent learning, our Year 6 pupils are currently helping Year 2 children to extra learning at lunchtime.
The older pupils set out the laptops, help the logging-in process and guide their younger counterparts to join in a wide range of interactive learning programmes

How Keen?

Once again the children of Windy Nook have done us all proud!
Girls on laptops sml.jpg

Over a dozen Y6 pupils are coming into school 45min early to trail a pack of maths games UKS2 staff have put together. Although not all wish to be in the spot light...

...they are all grafting away to sharpen maths skills through the playing of carefully selected maths games.
If you are really good - you get to play on the interactive Smart Board.

Blink and you'll miss it!

Year five and six pupils are getting even more creative!

Photo Story 4sml.jpg

Using Windows Photo Story they are creating a moving visual image and marrying it up to a bespoke audio track!

Graphical Score 1sml.jpg

Working in groups, the children have created graphical scores, detailing which sounds will need to fade in and out at each stage of the animation.

Boys with boxes 3sml.jpg

They have then had great fun using junk modelling to design and construct a range of homemade instruments to produce the sounds they are after.

Keep your eyes peeled as by the end of next week we may be in a position to publish links to the first few finished items!
